Learning from Lagos: Bridging the Tech Divide

At Lagos Innovates Conference

My journey to Lagos, Nigeria proved to be profoundly transformative. Our mission, driven by the imperative to address the pervasive technological disparities affecting black and brown communities in New York City, led our Queens leadership team to engage deeply with prominent figures from business, politics, and academia. As we immersed ourselves in the vibrant landscape of Lagos, we were struck by the significant strides and opportunities that black communities there had achieved, surpassing those available in NYC.

Our primary objective was to learn, contribute meaningfully, and forge partnerships that would facilitate reciprocal growth and success. Through this endeavor, we not only gained invaluable knowledge and practiced impactful strategies but also established alliances poised to create enduring connections crucial for the advancement of black and brown individuals in tech and entrepreneurship in NYC.

Beyond these professional ambitions, my personal journey unearthed a profound realization of my ancestral ties to Nigeria. Stepping foot on the land of my origin was a deeply spiritual experience, tempered by an awareness of the historical pain wrought by the transatlantic slave trade. Yet, discovering the richness of my heritage and the resilience of its people was profoundly uplifting.

I urge you, too, to embark on a journey of self-discovery, to reconnect with your roots and trace the origins of your soul. This pursuit not only grounds you in a profound sense of self but also opens pathways to new dimensions of personal growth and fulfillment, ultimately enriching your life in ways both tangible and spiritual.
